About this video
I recently sat down for the first time with Matt Gould, CEO and Co-Founder of Unstoppable Domains, at the ICANN conference in Puerto Rico.
I will admit that I have not invested much time in Web3 domains because I always felt they were a bit of a money grab. However, after talking with Matt, I walked away genuinely impressed. Unstoppable Domains is not a fly by night operation. They are actively awaiting ICANN approval to become a registrar, planning heavy investments in the next gTLD round, and are here for the long haul.
In this interview, I hit Matt with some of the toughest questions, concerns, and objections surrounding the Web3 space right now. We dive into the upcoming Web2 and Web3 collision, including what happens if another namespace wins the auction for a matching extension during the ICANN gTLD rounds in three years. We also discuss why Unstoppable only charges a one time fee rather than annual renewals, how they handle domain squatting, and how to contact a registrant. Finally, Matt answers where major browsers like Safari, Chrome, and Firefox actually stand on Web3 extensions, and whether the company has considered tokenization or domain lending.
